HELP i'm in DANGER!!!!!!?

ok i notice that when i get into a chat room some people know what state i'm in, How do they find out? do they track my computer down or something how ? well, I was in a chat room called 321 chat and it has happened in serveal others ....so i lied about the state i was in 2 be safe but some how they told me no and told me where i was at i got shocked ..and scared. How can i prevent them from seeing my computer information or anything that tells them where and what state i live in. PLease HElp I don't want my computer 2 be looked at or tracked by no one please please also for my little sister that always gets on the computer i don't want them 2 be un safe i will appricate it if you could tell me what 2 do or what 2 block so i willbe safe THank you very much

Asking a lot is not good, but apology accepted.

Listen, just use your head on these chat sites. Dont give out anything, even in a profile. Sorry you had to learn this the hard way - but pass the word on to your friends too. Tell them to use their head instead of their hormones.

Using my ip address, you can tell that I am in central Florida. Plus, I just now admitted it to the world. Do you really think that I am worried now that people know this? No. There are millions of people also in central Florida. I am MORE worried about the homeless that walks up to my car at a red light asking for money.

Relax...use your head on the Internet...finally if you really want to be anonymous, there are well known programs out there that will allow this.

Make sure you have all windows updates, use firewall, antivirus, and antispy.

You wont be in danger if you stay out of chat rooms. Most are not protected or supervised.

Any website has the ability to track your IP. Any person, with the right software can find out too. I will not describe how. They can track your IP, run it through a directory of sorts, and find out what region you're in.

They can also infect your computer with viruses. Even with software like Norton Anti-Virus you wont be completely protected as hackers become more skilled at disabling or working around your firewall. Although rare and fairly difficult for the average computer user, someone could also find out your phone number.

Its the IP ID that reveal the country,state,area and computer address.
These day many people have IP tracker, that can track the networks.

Edit: The only thing to be afraid about it is the viruses and hacking, that can harm your computer and your personal files, never trust any source or window that pop up saying intall any programs etc. And always scan any file sent by friends, before opening it, reason their computer might be infected and files from their computer can infect your computer. Its like contagious decease. Everything is alright otherwise.

You need to get in touch with the cyber angels in your area, they will find out who is tracking you. One 13 year old boy had a 45 year old man that had somehow typed him in as a buddy and he was able to follow the boy to each chat room he visited. He complained to a cyberangel and they were able to find the 45 year old and stop him. Be carefull what information you put on the internet, even to friends.

same as cspeedy said and they can probebly see your user name and it show your state that you registered with and as long as the people don't know your adress or city/town you should be ok what ever chat line you where on go back and see if theres a contact link so you can let the owners on the site know and they can anwser questions you have . i know how you feel this thing happed to me and lot of others

dear what they are doing sending tracking software or they might using van network when go to any chat room creat one more dummy id for urself this my personal experince and pls dnt accept any images or files from strangers then you would be safe all the best in chatting dear
