Somehow the chat room revealed your IP (Internet Protocol) address and they used that to do a Whois search on your ip address. Don't worry it only reveals your internet provider and the state you are in. Nothing else. Make sure you never enter personal details such as phone numbers or address or emails in chat rooms or message boards/forums.

It is very simple for anyone to tell what state you are by just looking up your ip address. You can avoid that by using a proxy server or something to connect to a site. Also, I would check your chat profile and make sure that you are not listing the state you are in. Usually when you chat with someone, you click on their name and that'll bring up your profile which will tell them whatever info you entered in there when you signed up for the account. Take a look at those two things and you are good to go.

I tried this years ago with my cat who had been a house cat for 4 years, then I moved house. I took Felix downstairs in a cat carrier and sat him outside a while (I was there too, obviously), he was OK, a little nervous and fed up and miaowed to get out. Then I had him on a leash (as he was quite a nervous soul I thought he'd panic and run for it) and he trembled in my arms. The noises, sights, smells and newness of it all was too much for him. After about 5 minutes of it I thought he'd suffered enough and took him back inside. I decided not to persevere. Letting him outside would put him under too much stress and I wasn't confident he could fend for himself, as he'd been at home since kittenhood. Not that I'm saying your cats won't adapt to the outside world but the cat's personality does come into it. His sister was a very anxious cat too (owned by my friend) and she went from house cat to outdoors, but she was never savvy, particularly on the road. Sadly she was killed by a car a few years later. I think some cats are BURSTING to get outside. Another house cat I knew was always grumpy and aloof indoors; permanently in his own bubble. When my friends moved and he started wandering outside, he completely changed personality; he went from anti-social to party animal: friendly, content, interested in others. So, it absolutely depends on the individual.

When you send IM it also send your IP address to the user you are chatting with, by using that, IP Address any one can track your location, upto area location. But they can't locate where you live on the stree or in that area. Install FireWall, AntiVirus, and if you are using File Sharing Software like LimeWire, check that you are not sharing whole of your computer. It (limeiwre) should be looking only one directory not the whole of your computer... enjoy.

Install a Firewall program, such as Zone Alarm, its freely downloadable on the web. This will stop anybody from being able to directly access any files on your system. Also download a little program called CC Cleaner which removes all your internet history and tracking data from your system. It also speeds things up abit.

bare in mind that when chatting with someone (obviously you on the same site) the website always have measures or guidelines how to be safe in the chat room. you can either report or block them, normally messenger has this protocols and only to your preferences this can be activated.

Stop going into the chat rooms. That would be a good way.

The only danger you are in is from the wrath of posters who are annoyed about you asking the same question more than once.

no, you're not IN DANGER.
you merely need to-
a) set your user profile(s) to PRIVATE or
b) change all of your profile info so that it's not true

simple, really.
calm down, eh?
