I think they are under a lot more stress than they use to be. Peer pressure, acceptance, responsibility, looks (weight as well as clothes and hair), drugs, sex & alcohol. So much is out there in the world today that our teens have to make the dicisions themselves on whether to do them or not, even the teens that parents want them to be individuals carry the stigma of being "different". We give out teens computers to open the world for them, then the perverts prey on the sites, we give them cell phones to keep in constant contact with them so we know where they are, other kids harrass them. We buy them games and it becomes adictive to the point where homework and recreation is all but abandoned. TV is too violent and now the music they listen too seems violent also. With all this pressure on our youth, people sit back and say "why are they so moody"....

It's down to hormones and inexperience. The intense feelings we have as teenagers are 'practise' for later life and relationships. You have more opportunities to meet people and start relationships when you are younger. You benefit later from developing good coping strategies now to deal with rejection, relationships and everything ellse. It's a tough but potentially exciting period of your life. The best advice I would give anyone younger is to very carefully choose their wife/husband/partner because mistakes can have long-lasting effects!

Because their brain is still in a growing process, and it causes many psychological disbalances that cause up and downs in their lifes. Their bodies are in a growing process too, causing hormonal disbalances that cause up and downs in their mood.
Once a body matures, life becomes more stable.

they have ups and downs like anybody else, - their emotional state is not stable enough, -nor their coping skills.
That's why it LOOKS like they have more trauma.
