Im just a little curious, but do actors really have to have sex with other actors when doing a sex scene? Im asking this because when watching the Making of Battlestar Galactica, Actress Grace Park's scene was severely edited or something...

Generally speaking sex on camera is simulated however there is editing to reduce shots that are too revealing (either because it would earn a movie an NC-17 rating or it would violate the contract of one or both of the actors). Then again, there have been movies (outside of the pornographic genre) with actual sex. A recent one is the independent film, Short Bus (highly recommended unless you are bothered by sexual activity), but this is not the norm.

No, they do not have actual sex when filming a movie. Keep in mind that the actors are on a set and they are surrounded by cameramen, lighting, the director, other actors...many, many people are watching them as they act. Some actors are just very, very good at making it look real.

To add to what the others have said the actors also use padding between them as a matter of respect.

most of the time its a body suit your seeing on the woman. most actresses do not show their real bodies.
and the men wear a sock like thing (not a condom) if and when they really have sex.

I am an actor and when I have sex scenes, I always make sure I penetrate my co-star. She sometimes complains but I feel it is important to the realism of the scene. I will not sacrifice my artistry for a questionable practice, I have to feel the scene.
