You've never served, have you.
If you had you would appreciate the fear and respect that noncommissioned officers inspire.
It's a CARTOON. Things are exaggerated in a CARTOON.
Now, drop and show me TWENTY GOOD ONES before you ask another thoughtless question

RE:
In the Beetle Bailey comic strip, how come when Sgt. Snorkel beats Beetle up,he never gets court martialed or?
Just once,I think it would be cool if Sgt. Snorkel were to get demoted or drummed out of the Army for beating the crap out of Beetle. Even better, let's see someone beat HIM up to show him how it feels.

Because it is old school.
Back in the days, which ended right about the time I joined, if you had a problem with someone, you too off your shirt, which had your rank on it, and you would go at it. Admittedly, this was not about everything. This was more if you had someone who did what they were ordered if they thought it needed to be done but would slack on doing what they were ordered if they didn't think it needed to be done and didn't want to do it. Back in the day, that was acceptable. It wasn't like a fight in the Enlisted Club, or something like that, it was about respect. If you had someone who didn't respect you, you beat it into them. It made the NCO's that much better than those below them. They knew that one day, they may have to whoop a man's *** to enforce their orders. Having the force of law wasn't enough.

Beetle has beaten Sarge up, more than once he has taken him to task for not doing things the proper way and said, “Here, let me show you how it ought to be done!” and proceeded to kick some stuffing out of Sarge. The idea is that Beetle is supposed to be (still) in basic training, where drill sergeants subject their raw recruits to lots worse than is shown in a mere comic strip, I assure you!
In response to your last sentence, I am reminded of the words of martin Luther King, Jr: “We must evolve for all time a method of human relationship which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation; the foundation of such a method is love.” I would be afraid to see people under you in an position of authority.

its to complicated of a question, there is no easy answer, word has it that Beetle has had psychological problems for years, until the final strip has been written , we may never know. Perhaps someday he may write a auto biography, until then, hope that he makes it thru basic and doesn't end up in Iraq

It's a comic strip and probably depicts the way most Privates feel their Sgt. treats them.
