About a month ago I lost my grandmother. She has been sick before that for 40 days, but my parents did not inform me about her sickness, as I was away for my college (They didn't want me to become distracted from my studies). One day before I leave for the holiday, they called me and told me that she died the morning of that day. I didn't react at all. I just sat on a chair and read some prayers. Then a few days later, before I go to sleep, it hit me. I'll never see my grandmother again. So I started crying a lot, and kept on that for 15 minutes. So what's up with me? Why did not I respond when they told me the first time?

That's extremely normal. Each person is different and because of that, each person reacts differently to stress and devastation. Sometimes people react immediately while others take a few minutes. It's even common for some people to go on with their lives and not be struck with grief until a year or more later. It doesn't make anyone less human or less emotional based on how quickly they react to sad news.

My condolences to you and your family.

Sometimes the sudden shock is too great for you to take in all at once. It's only later when you realise fully what has happened that the grief starts. My heart goes out to you.

Everyone reacts to catastrophic news differently. You just needed to wait til it became a reality that you could deal with. There has been a lot of things that I didn't deal with for years. I just wasn't ready.
