I put a suet outside for the birds and over time I was surprised to see that I was getting a lot of visits from woodpeckers. Two different kinds of species even! So I recommend getting a suet and hanging it from a tree. They seem to like peanut the best I think but that's no positive. A lot of them say too what birds they are more likely to attract.

Be careful You don't want them too close to your house because unless your house is brick or concrete Woodpeckers would love the side of your house and can drive you crazy. We had them last year and they were a real pain in the neck knocking o the side of the house early in the morning.

We have a variety of wood peckers - green, lesser and greater.
We hang peanuts and other wild bird food in the long wire tubes so that they are long enough for the woodpeckers to cling on to and peck at.
They also like bacon rind
