The San Franciso bay area is very diverse and you'd meet many many people. If your bf is a bricklayer, this would be the place to be, especially if he has any other contruction experience. Napa Valley (north bay area) is booming with construction of huge mansions and wineries needing brick/paving people for that French look.

My husband works for a plumbing company with very upscale items, like over $6000 for a bathtub, installation not included! And he just interviewed for another company where a *refrigerator* was over $12,000!! Imagine what kinds of jobs are available to your bf with that experience!

Housing prices are exorbitant here, that's why most people rent. The rents are cheaper than SF proper, about $1400 - $4000 a month depending on where in the Valley you live.

My cousin was a carpenter here and made enough by 45 years old to retire to Hawaii and surf all day just by working on the mansions and wineries.

Good luck hon!
