I use a wireless router and whenever this is switched on in order to use broadband, I am unable to use my phone. There is no dial tone. Incoming calls ring but I am unable to answer them unless I switch off the router. Any ideas what could be causing this? All phone extensions are connected to a filter and I have tried different filters, without success. I have a BT phone line/Virgin ISP. Any suggestions what to do? Many thanks.

Either a Router Problem or Line Problem.

Ring BT Report a Line Error line and check to see if their is a fault. If there is, it will either be fixed from their end or they will come to your house.

If there is no error, then it is likely to be the Router.

ok. i am going to target to make this common... with a VOIP telephone, dealing with both your pc, or direct on your router, you are able to call: Land strains everywhere in the international, cellphones everywhere in the international, And different VOIP consumers everywhere in the international. to call a landline, or cellular telephone will maximum in all probability cost you, besides the undeniable fact that it is going to likely be less expensive than utilising BT as an get mutually. i purchased £5.00 on Skype and nonetheless have over £3.00 left, and that i take advantage of it fairly oftentimes. yet to call yet another VOIP consumer, it is free infant! you should use dissimilar diverse pakages to utilise VOIP, the guess is Skype - that is free, and grow to be the first, and maximum advanced - you are able to now video convention it is way cool! in the adventure that your pc has a speaker and microphone, and broadband, you are able to VOIP. you do not ought to purchase expensive equipment, besides the undeniable fact that that is continually impressive! i'm hoping this helps!

Easy. Your phone needs to have call waiting on it. If you phone does not have that option then technically you have one line. With call waiting, you are talking to someone (or on computer) then you hear a beep, the person calling and you can switch lines or use three way calling. Anyway, investigate. But you will need call waiting on the phone line or my name aint the Lone Ranger. lol

Change your ISP to BT Broadband. It is the best.

Your router/hub is at fault, ask your provider to exchange it.
I do not have call waiting so I would comfortably assume it is not an issue - in fact that suggestion is a bum steer and you would be chasing smoke if you decide to pursue it - I feel.
good luck

You could try re-setting the router, is there is a button somewhere to physically re-set it?
