I bought a usb flash memory stick a few months ago to store my schoolwork on. I have just inserted it into one of my pc's usb slots this morning. When i clicked on the drive in my computer it told me that the drive needed formatting. If i format the drive will i lose all my saved documents on the memory stick? If so is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening because i have a lot of important work on it?

Don't worry about it.
Even if you have to format the flash disk, the data on the disk still can been recovered .
Please try to use the following software,
Easy recovery
or
Final data enterprise.
Good luck.

attempt plugging it right into a different USB port. My old gadget does that plenty. often works for me. - Ah ok, considering you have tried all the ports. Do you have the different USB contraptions? if so, plug a style of into the USB port you're attempting to apply. If those different USB contraptions artwork interior the USB port you're attempting to apply, then it relatively is a difficulty with your flashdrive. :X stable success!

If you can still see it as a seperate drive when you click on My Computer, then right click on the drive, select properties, click on tools then see if you can back up your files from there. It then should give you the choice to back up the files to your harddrive.

From here you can also run a Error check and a defrag.
