When I plug it in and take the adaptor out the screen dims, and when I plug it back in it's bright again so I don't think it's the charger, could it be? I just got a replacement battery like 6 months ago so could it be the battery again?

I initially plugged it in because my battery is dying but when I unplug it, it shows that the battery has not been charged

6 months is usually a laptop battery's half life so its probably time to get a new one but as for the screen diming thats just a power saver option you can change it if you want just right click the little power cord icon on the bottom right hand of the screen and open the properties on it and that will let you edit it

When you unplug the adapter and it goes over to battery mode it probably just tries to save power so it dims the screen slightly. It probably does several other things to save power but not things you'd notice.
