If America is "The Land of Opportunity"?

I have always taken that statement to be, "Only the rich can say America is the land of opportunity."

Several reasons have already been mentioned, but here are more contributing factors:

Greedy, intrusive government run by arrogant, power-hungry lawyers, ignorant of even simple economics.


1) They raise taxes, which raises prices, which makes people poorer.

2) They interfere with the marketplace, which results in jobs being lost.

So yeah, there is plenty of opportunity, but the gov does get in the way and make it harder for people achieve.

There is a correlation between homelessness and mental illness in the US. So many of our homeless people are veterans of foreign wars who wish to remain homeless. For those who wish to escape the tragedy of homelessness, there is help! Many have been helped, but they first must help themselves.

Programs are in effect to provide subsidized housing, jobs, transportation, food stamps, medical attention, to those in need. County hospitals provide medical care for those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

Truly, America is a land of opportunity for those who will help themselves! "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!"

The key word here is 'opportunity'. America isn't the land of "give everyone anything they want even if they are lazy and stupid". Every American has the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Not everyone is able to achieve them.

Because those are the people who don't take that opportunity and run with it.

Because to take advantage of "opportunity" one must take initiative and take their opportunity. Opportunity doesn't come looking for you, you must look for opportunity.

They are that way because of their choices, and sometimes their refusal to take responsibility. I guarantee you that you can trace their homelessness back to their choices.
