people keep posting they are a small club but without looking it up im sure they are the 4th most sucsessful club in english football. arsenal are the only club that have been in the top flight longer and in 1985 they came so close to being the only club to do the league fa cup and ecwc treble. i know liverpool could of done the league fa cup and european cup treble in 1977 but thats a different story?

There are many levels to ranking the size of a club (most of the championship thinks its a big club). I would call the top 12-16 teams in europe big clubs (eg.Inter, AC, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd, Bayern, Ajax, Celtic, Rangers, Lyon, Chelsea, Juventus). These are the clubs with worldwide recognition and popularity. Everton are a medium ranked national side with a reasonable profile. I would class them as neither small or big

I wouldn't classify myself as a fan of any one team. I do follow Everton a bit cause they have Tim Howard.

That said, by english standards I would classify them middle of the road.

You have the giants like Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.....all the others are just fighting for the UEFA cup spots. On occasion one will get lucky and finnish 4th ( like Newcastle a few years back ) but to compete with those guys is tuff.

Now put Everton up against say Anderlecht or Racing Genk and they would probably win 9 outta 10 times

We are a big club, great history, well known throughout the footballing world. If we were in any city other than Liverpool we would be classed as huge. As it is we share a catchment area with, historically, the most successful team in English football, to have the kind of support we do despite our neighbours is testament to the size of our club.

Teams are judged on the past and Everton used to be one of the top clubs in england. The last ten years or so have been mixed but have been getting better since Moye's became manager. They are slowly but surely getting back to where they belong which is one of the top english clubs. But to me they have always been a big club as i am an everton fan since childhood even though i from yorkshire.

They are a big club---just not as big as the "Big Four" -- Manchester United,Liverpool,Arsenal and Chelsea. Calling them a small club is just a dig at them for always being in the shadow of Liverpool.

I do not know much about Everton. But from what I have looked up, you are not a small Football Club by far, OK, you might not be one of the biggest, BUT, I can not see why that should make any difference to you!!!

must be terrible living in the shadow of the mighty reds!
a great club nonetheless and as i can recall at least 2/3 dozen players or more that is a pretty good indication.
any club that can command that sort of knowledge is a big one.
also have had two great mates who are Evertonians so come on u toffees!!!
my ex also used to go to Goodison many years ago.
