Oh yes,
a week before and first two days I can become addicted to chocolates and even may eat junk food like chips.
I become swollen and fill dropsical. Breast more heavy and hips bigger and even face looking more chubby.
Even not eating or drinking water or liquids not a help.
Actually you should not stop drinking normal daily portion of water that is about 2 litters (not tea or other drinks) Also discuss with your doctor, may be you have a lack of magnium or you eat too much salt that is blocking the water in your body, or it is a kind of garmon reaction since something changed in your sex life, or contraceptive you started to use. May sound not related, but also it depends on moon phase.
Massage and sauna is a good prevention (before, not during period).Eating boiled vegetables without salt or spices and keeping healthy diet and exercising with sport helps you to feel minimum discomfort. Also I like to scrub my body with honey and sea salt.
Don't discomfort this day your body with tight dress and take a good care choosing shoes, as fits are also becoming bigger.
Usually I never go shopping this days as my size is a bit differ then usual.
Generally speaking-it is good that you notice behaviour of your body.Sure you will work out your best way to treat it to feel good! Since we are women, we have to store some weight for future maternity. Same time we want to be attractive and we are doing our best to look good.
Take care:) and don't worry about gaining weight, it will go so easy as it came- just few days after.

Yes it is true that you do bloat some during your period. This is why sometimes you see the ads on tv for certain products to help with bloating during a period b/c it can cause water retention. This is due to hormones during that time.

Many women retain fluid often beginning just before their periods due to hormone changes, It unfortunately adds to the general feeling of tension. It is lost again during the period.

Over the counter diuretics like Aquaban taken for a few days a month may help. Nettle preparations, which are also diuretic, from the health food shop may also help.

yes definately, when I used to go slimming world I used to have to put a little star on my diet sheet if I had my period, mainly because if anyone had a large weight gain but had stuck to their diet we would know why. You can gain up to half a sone, which is 7 pound or 3 kgs.

actually, women start to bloat up days before their period. this happens after ovulation. the fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone cause the woman to retain water. this phenomena also happens when a woman is taking the pill/oral contraceptives. oral contraceptives have high amounts of anologues of estrogen and progesterone, which could ultimately lead to water retention and the feeling of being 'bloated'

I know I do. Don't be discouraged. To prove it, you should weigh yourself about 2 days before you are due on, again when you come on and you will see the difference. I gain 3lbs.
