I think that education in the penal system is essential, not least for the fact that many of those in prison have not had the best education for whatever reason. Upon release from prison their chances of securing employment are severely hampered. It seems to me that if attempts have been made to give these people some sort of education that this might improve their chances and minimise the "double whammy" effect. The financial benefits of this approach are more medium to long-term that immediate, but should not be underestimated.
Good luck with your Cert Ed.

Best wishes, J

funny you should say that, i have just done my own prison policy
synopsis, for the christian lionheart party. Prison is now and has always been a a lovely sofa that the guests sit on, but if they look under the cushions they find loads of hidden junk, such is my faith in the unfortunat britain that is shoved under the cushions
of our country they can be educated in such a way as to become able to own the sofa.

It's a huge subject that could be debated all night, but in a nutshell, it's got to be worth it. Coming out of prison with a qualification that you didn't have when you went in, is bound to be an incentive to prospective employers to give you a try. It would prove to them that you had made an effort to better yourself. Many people who re-offend, have no formal education.

It's a pity that they don't spend more thought on educating children. They might be less likely to end up in prison.

Sadly it only appears to have little success but it appears to be the lesser of two evils and we should keep trying if it only helps to rehabilitate a few prisoners.

I have no idea..I have never been to prison..
I may try to get myself booked into one of their guestrooms with all the mod cons should I ever be down on my luck in the future.
