I love sci-fi. Everything's shinier there, it gives you hopes and ideas for the future. I believe that by putting our wildest ideas and wishes out there, we have something to reach for. I love looking at how far we've come already, look at computers and how we interact with them and going to Mars ! This was the stuff of sci-fi.
It's also interesting to me to see how the present influences our sci-fi : the concerns and ideals of each time are reflected in how they pictured the future.

I'm glad science fiction is finally getting the respect it deserves. With the pace of change any more, future-impact is obviously the place to wrestle with ideas. Sci-Fi creates great commentary on current trends by extrapolating twenty, fifty, or even a few hundred years into the future. Even crappy sci-fi (logan's run, anyone?) still wrestles with the largest of large issues. Science fiction deals in ideas so large that they are customarily reserved for religion, and does so (usually) in a light-hearted manner. For that, I say, "Asimov invented a word you know".

Yes. For the authors they are an opportunity to project existing trends to logical or illogical conclusions, so providing salutory warnings about the familiar (the boiling frog syndrome). And, like humour they are a great way to satirise or otherwise hold present customs and assumptions up to the light, by creating a distance between the subject and the reader so that the "aha!" of recognition sneaks up on one unaware, making it more difficult to rationalise or resist. So it's much more effective than a frontal attack.

No, I do not.
As much as I realize we tend to fantasize as much as our imagination will prompt us.
And that the way we conceive our life is the ultimate fantasy, since a collective reality would be impossible to achieve and agree upon, I prefer, as much as I can "get" it, non-fiction, which, since recorded by man is in a way science fiction, story, film and (do not forget) theater.

I like science fiction movies; because, they normally have scantily dressed women, but unfortunately the story lines are normally lame.

I love sci-fi! It opens up the realms of possibilities and has so much room for imagination! I love to read where others' minds take them, where their dreams go and where their aspirations are.
