yet as i remember, silver surfer happened to be a pretty cool character, and his confrontation with the fantastic four wasn't that he was as evil as the preview made him seen, and i thought that doom was supposed to return, how did we get so far ahead in time to when the silver surfer arrived? what about the previous villains? and does victor return in the movie?

Silver Surfer is cool, but he is an unwilling bad guy at the begining of his story. Face it, his job is to seek out planets with life on them and the ring the dinner bell for Galactus to come and eat it. Not a job that will make you popular in a good way.
As for the other early villians, Mole Man, Submariner, and the Skrulls; only the Submariner has any real potential. Any ideas how to adapt his origin for today's audiences? It is too complicated and out dated.

I haven't seen the preview yet and I am not too knowledgeable about the Fantastic Four but I do know that the Silver Surfer served as the herald for Galactus the planet eater. Now as I said my knowledge of FF is totally sub par but if I remember correctly Silver Surfer was amoral. He will most likely serve as the enemy for this movie and also set up FF3 the coming of Galactus. As for Victor von Doom I have no clue I didn't see the movie so I have no idea what happened to him but my guess is like Joker from the '89 Batman movie you won't see him again the the franchise.
