Here are some things to do to prepare for the interview:
1. Research the company to learn about their business, competition, and problems that are being faced. You do not need to have the answers, but be aware of the situations.
2. Wear clothing that fits the business that is giving you the interview. If it is not an office job, wear what kind of clothing you would wear to do the job; make sure you are clean and your clothing is neet. If you are interviewing for an office job, wear a suit and tie with a new shine on the shoes. You do not need to wear an expensive suit for an interview. In fact, if you are just getting started, take a look at the second-hand clothing stores (thrift stores) in your area. You may be able to get a decent suit that fits for under $20.00.
3. When you come into the interview, smile and give a firm (not crushing) hand shake. Sit down when offered a chair, keep both feet on the floor, and sit up straight. Slouching and crossing your legs can look lazy. Make sure you are not chewing gum or have candy in your mouth; that may be obvious, but I have had people to interview that chewed gum, candy, finger nails, and her hair during the interview.
4. Answer the questions they ask, but do not rush to give the answer as there is no prize for speed in answering. Take a breath and formulate your answer before talking.
5. Have a few answers to questions in your mind like these:
a) why did you leave your last job?
b) why do you want to work for this company?
c) what was the biggest job problem you have fixed and how?
d) what is the top factor to help or hurt your success?
On that last one, you want to word your answer so it turns out like a positive.
If you have never had a regular job before, it may take a few interviews to get the hang of what happens. Do not get down on your abilities. You many be very qualified, but someone else may be a better fit for their current needs. Good Luck!
