I learned that the universe can be really different from what we see it as, and Douglas Adams made it easy enough for most people to understand. I wonder if anyone carries laser pointers in case of a Vogon invasion...

E you still believe these ignorancia ? They had said that collision between galaxies is a relatively common phenomenon in the universe. In October of 94, the Hubble photographed one such Wheel of Covered cart (500 million year-light of the Land). E later had said that it was a galaxy deformed for a collision that finished to happen.

As much fun as it was to read, I don't think that the series contributed anything to science. Those who understood the inside jokes - improbability drives, for example, knew enough about science to get it. Those who didn't get it probably never learned anything new about science.

It's fun reading but that's about it. It hasn't gotten any attention in scientific journal, societies or by the Nobel prize committee.
