The best line for me is in book three, last line in chapter 20 it says 'Ten minutes later, drifting idly through a cloud, he got a large and extremely disreputable cocktail party in the small of the back'
The events leading up to this line and subsequent chapters make it a pivotal part of the story and it never fails to bring a smile to my face no matter how many times I have read it.
Book 5 in the trilogy is a bit drawn out and tends to lose its way for a while but I have all the books and they are all well worn with constant reading, I have not seen the latest attempt at a film of the story and do not intend to watch it, it might spoil the picture I have in my head of the various characters.

My favourite thing from HHGTTG is actually from the its original format (the radio series), the bird peopleof Brontital. Unfortunately DNA, when writing the books, didn't really like that section and reduced it to a line or two in the Restaurant at the End of The Universe.

The thing I liked best about it was there was 5 parts (6 if you count the short story "Young Zaphrod plays it safe".
The book are a lot better than the movie. . .

I thought that having a trilogy in four parts (instead of the usual three) was a rather daring and brilliant break with tradition.

I haven't watched that one yet. I've watched the new one though. If the one you're talking about has the 2 people getting transmitted into the spaceship and they're sofas, that was brilliant.
It made me laugh all the way through.

That it was funny.
And that it was extraordinarily clever. There are jokes there that require a passing acquaintance with quantum physics and cosmology, and I am sure that there are many levels of jokes that go straight over my head.

That there was a fifth book, "Mostly Harmless". It also didn't hover in the air the same way that bricks don't.
