I ask this from my lap top!!! My desktop fired up this morning but the moniter is blank. I need to power down so I can take it for repair. How do I shut down without pulling the plug on it. How can I turn it of if I cant see the screen!!!

Use HotKeys
Tap the Windows Start key next to the Left Ctrl key, tap the U key, wait 3 seconds, tap the U key again, and it should start to turn off. Wait until the computer is completly off before disconnecting anything from the back of the computer.

try tapping the power button on tower once and it may still be set to shut down from default in control panel.
DO NOT HOLD IT IN !!
first i would check the monitor for power supply(switched on at wall) make sure it's power lead is plugged in correctly and the cable going to tower is plugged in properly. are you getting anything on monitor if you turn it on without the tower being on?
should say something like "self testing" or "no signal".
if not then you probably find it's your monitor that is at fault and not the tower and taking the tower down to the shop will prove fruitless in this situation.
can you borrow a monitor from a friend just to hook up and see if it works then?
otherwise if it still doesn't work then it is more than likely to be a graphics problem.

hold down Alt and F4, wait a few seconds then press ENTER that probably wont work heh

Keep pressing Ctrl Alt Delete until your computer reboot, turn it off when it try to boot back on

you already know the respond.......take out the battery. Then re-insert it and boot up. This continually works on my laptop. make advantageous their is yet another ability source plugged in.
