I believe it's time for their coach, & Ricky Ponting to say to the world "We are losers - we are no longer #1 in the world" - is this wishful thinking ??

Just hold on there. It doesn't mean that because they are number one in the world that south africa will win. Oz do not have all there star players but it should be no excuse for them. Don't write them off and don't think they are not favourites.

It takes one match and they could be back on a winning streak. Suppose Pakistan and Oz end up int the final who do you think is going to win? We don't know and I will not label SA as the only favourites.

West Indies are good and its their home turf. My personal opinion is that Oz will not win. My money is on South Africa. However OZ is a very good team and can beat them.

Its time for South Africa to erase their memories of bad world cup campaigns and finally win it. The good thing about this WC is that there are no certain favourites and it will make it very exciting

As a South African, I do not believe that you can write off any of the major sides in the world cup. South Africa will start as favourites because recent form has been better than Australia's. They have beaten India, Pakistan, New Zealand and England in recent series and beat Aus in a game that produced over 800 runs.

SA have also had a few bad games and can lose everything if they have a bad game in the world cup. It is just that they look the best on average at the moment.

Yes, they have thinking to do, and they have lost the #1 ranking, but I dont think that they can call themselves losers just yet!! Lets have a bit more time to guage results, say after the WOrld Cup, before we go to that extreme!!

The main area they need to look at is their bowling, particularly at the end of an innings in the death overs, as well as their spinning options. They are leaking far too many runs in the last 10 overs, particularly Watson, who seems to have lost the zip in his bowling from the Champions Trophy. And as for our spinners, Hogg and White, they have been outshone by part timers in Clarke and Symonds so far this summer!! If they can get that right, they will get back to the spot they held for so long.

The batting seems to be fine, todays performace seemed to show that the efforts of the other day was one of those times where you simply can not have an answer to good bowling.

The way they lost to New Zeland today was a shame for a team holding No. 1 position in the world cricket for such a long time. It was a pity that they could not defend such a mamoth total of 336 runs. Full credit to New Zeland. Australia have now to work hard and think of new game plans for their world cup campaign

I hate to admit it (being an India supporter) that Australia team (mother -f@#%&s) have the TENACITY to bounce back everytime after a dry spell - I am sure that it's gonna happen again - what your team is suffering at the moment, is a Vacuum because of absence of key players who retired recently -

I just hope and wish that you don't bounce back during this World Cup - it should belong to India this occasion

Good Luck anyways

are u kidding me? being a cute aussie guy i think we are still the best team in the world no matter what the rankings say....form is temporary and skill and talent is permanent....we have the best fielders...best bowlers...best batsmen ever....we have ponting...who is the 2nd greatest batsman ever since bradman and can play every shot in the book...can score runs on any pitch...under any conditions...under any scenario....on bouncy and fast and slow and low tracks...is the best puller ever...best batsman for about 5 years now....and is the best batsman right now by a country mile!!!!! we are not losers...we are winners in every way..we have many many many different world champions in all sorts of different sports....and until 2 weeks ago we had EVERY TROPHY IN WORLD CRICKET....including the world cup and the champions trophy....so i dont care what the rankigns say...we are still the best team by a country mile...and we will continue to be the best ever....if we had the greatest world XI ever...we would have many players including...bradman....ponting...warne...mcgrath...hayden....when the hell was the last time india beat the aussies....and ur entire shi.tty country plays the game and still suck and havent won any major trophy for decades...tendulkar and dravid cant play bouncers and short balls!!!!!!

Pride comes before a fall and it has become true in Aostralias case.
When Lou Voincent accused them of being"LARGER THAN THE GAME" and the World called them an "Invincible side".They basked in it in Pride and became Over confident and this is the cause of thier downfall.
This WC belongs to the proteas cause they deserve to win and i am saying this being a hardcroce Indian fan.

to write aus of because of a few bad games is a serious mistake there is a reason why they had topped the rankinks for so many years, so they had a few bad games, it takes just a few good ones to find yourself in the finalo. They will be praying that lee symonds, clarke and hayden are all fit too play.

As a south african it pains me too say it but they are a great cricket side and on their day they are unbeatable (xcept for s.a )

Yes, they have lost and lost miserably.
They could not chase score of around 250 runs.
They failed to defend scores of 325 +.
The balance of the side in the absence of Symonds looks disturbed. Their bowling in absence of Lee looks weak.
Even their fielding suffered.
However, no one is going to the world and say that we are loosers. The other teams will still have to beat them and yes, now the other teams can do that regularly.
