The UNICEF report is hardly shocking but now there is an official stamp.
Tony is as we speak spinning on tv, can we really expect the (laugh) Labour Government, as it is, to finally acknowledge how bad it has become for not just children but most people since the death of real Labour?

It's not the worst place for children in the world. It's just not doing well compared to other industrialized countries also studied. That's still going to be a far cry above many, even most, non-industrialized countries in the Third World.

I don't think I'd blame Labour alone for the problems. Studies have shown difficulties with British kids charting back to 1979. It's not like Labour has been the only party running the show since then.

The Torys have nothing to crow about. The study was from 1979 to 1999. Who was in power for most of that!

As for it being devorce and the like (ie one perent families) How many one perent families were there after WW1 and WW2, did that lead to problems then.

Lets just look at the thing that has changed in that time, the need for both perents to work to put a roof over the head of the children. It is no longer for the luxuries that the wife (or Hubby) has to work, it is purly to buy a house.

Not really Britain I guess, but the core of all worst things in this world derives and comes from USA only. Take a look around you. You are completely surrounded by all the American cultures from food until televisions. I don't think UK is the worst place for children in the world. You should be more knowledgeable in this case. We all know, the whole world know that America now is the worst place of all things in this human life. The most superficial one ever.

When you take into account that most families have to have two working parents to afford to live its not surprising that its difficult for them to spend quality time bringing up their kids. If you (the mother) choose not to work to spend time with them, then your labelled as a scrounger, not contributing to your country, society.
The media hasnt helped by encouraging kids to be adults in lots of ways, thus alienating them from the idea of being kids and enjoying childhood.('grown ups control the media0
As a country we have never given enough thought to the needs of kids, we have had a be seen but not heard culture, thus making the kids feel isolated and unwanted.
There is insufficient good sex education from schools and parents, resulting in early unwanted pregnancies and girls and boys ill equipped and inexperienced becoming parents.
Industry has gradually become eroded by outsourcing and wholesale shutting of factories etc to open them abroad for purely financial reasons. Education is too expensive - thus kids ae disillusioned about their future - they cant hope to have the security previous generations did and so have no motivation or impetus to do well at school.
i could go on. The whole of society, the government, industry, education etc is to blame.
Just look at the way other countries value their kids and include them in family life.

govt just makes problems go away by passing a new law ,
look we made drugs illegal
any kid uses drugs they get jumped on ,criminalised for life
in time they realised they plead guilty to having a plant not a drug ,that a plant in the ground is a fixture not a drug
that 20 out of 21 plead guilty to a lie ,by lie of deeming a plant a drug ,that lawyers get one third of thier income from drug laws and that one third of polititions are lawyers ;whos answer to every thing is of course a new law

that legal drugs kill 50 times more people by adverse reacrtion than the so called illegal drugs/alchol alone killing 35 per day in the average large hospital ,they have other laws to conntend with jay walking licencing laws young people are the target of 89 percent of law ,go to any court see the facts that abuse children
then realise one in four of those children have physiclly been abused [sexually] the bases are loaded againt the young and worse against the young and poor
talk of chickens comming home to roost we aint seen nothing yet

Probably because of all the divorces about today and single parent families as well as the children not being able to see one of their parents

I personally resent such reports. How about children starving to death in other parts of the world, and so on.

A lack of authoritative dads, and too many one parent families becoming the norm.

Look on the bright side. At least your children have wondeful vocabularies.
