He has come out of his room almost in tears. I asked him to show me the monster, thinking it was shadows cast by furniture or something. But it was standing in an empty space in the middle of his room. He really believes it's there - his legs were shaking, his eyes were bulging and his hands were over his mouth.

He can't see it with the light on, even though it's not even dark yet. He tried to sleep in my room but the monster followed him. "It's tongue is out and it's holding a cup with a sad face on it and it's other hand is on the floor and it's green and fat".

It should be the standard non-existent monster. But I'm also considering (a) his genuine terror, and he hasn't even been asleep yet; (b) a previous and justifiable sighting of a ghost (he couldn't sleep because there was a ghost bird at his window. The dog had killed a bird that day and dumped it outside Mr 4's window and he never knew because I disposed of it).

I'm sure some people will laugh, but what do you think?

He is NOT a psycho he is a perfectly normal little boy with a vivid imagination!

Small children can not differentiate between what is real and what is not. For example, many little ones believe what is happening on TV is happening right there (or right outside the house) because they just haven't developed that skill yet and the part of the brain seperating real from fake has not yet matured.

So the problem is that you have a perfectly normal little boy with a vivid imagination and very real fear of a monster that isn't there. He is genuinely terrified because he genuinely saw or imagined something that scared the pants off of him.

One technique that helps kids with monsters is to have him draw a picture of what it looks like. Sad cup and everything. And then say, "Where can we put this monster so he goes away?" and let him think up things. He could draw a cage around the monster or rip up the paper and throw it away. Then bag up the trash tie it tightly in front of him and let him see you take it to the trash bin (where you also close the lid.) Reassure him that he is safe and keep doing those monster checks. He will be relieved that mom is on his side.

Any living thing, when it "dies", leaves behind an aura or vapour that the physical body used to occupy. Call it "spirits" or elecro magnetic special effects caused by interactions of living cells with the electo magnetic field of the earth , I think children, esp those below five, can sense or "see" such vacuous spaces that once used to be "filled" by actual living beings.

All neuro transmissions in the body are like tiny electric impulses. There must be some sort of interaction with the earth's magnetic field when the neurons are alive and firing. Even when they finally die, I believe some of this force remains - its like more of physics and less of "spirits" as such.

Your child needs reassurance and perhaps a night light too. He will soon grow out of fear of monsters too. Dont do anything to re inforce his fears.

Find out what Mr. 4 thinks is the best defense against monsters, and if possible but it into effect! Even if it involves spinning his bed around sidewise, and tying knots in the corners of the sheets. What matters is that he believes that everything possible that can be done is being done. The power of the mind, even if that mind works differently than most others, is a powerful thing.

its common for children to hallucinate. i used to and so did many of my friends. he could have a slight fever. or it could be just overactive imagination with kids.

here is a cool suggesttion:

get an empty garden water spray bottle. fill it with water. add one drop of oil of lavander in it. and label it "monster spray". tell him to spray it anywhere he sees the monster. i read this in a magazine and it sounded like a cute idea. the lavender will help lull him to bed. hell feel empowered with his new weapon lol.

The Bible is a spiritual weapon and he has a Roeg spirit exhibiting himself to the youngster! Get it out , that's going to in basic terms obey in case you utilize the call of Jesus. it relatively is why we christian are consistently spouting it, it relatively works and all of us understand our enemy. He sees it. help him!
