the answer is yes and no... it will constantly fluctuate, yet always remain below the pound. The reason being that instead of holding onto any of its wealth, America likes to give it away. Compared to any other country in the world, America is charitable to a ridiculous level. What America needs to do is shut down the handouts for five years, and spend it on itself. Balance the budget, pay off international debt, and close the borders. It's like an uncle who won the lottery, the rest of the world is a cousin with his hands out. Close the gates like willy wonka did, and reopen when you've got your own sh#t figured out.

there could be some short term fluctuations in favor of $ at times, but i believe that in medium-long term dollar is not expected to appreciate. simply cuz dollar is a currency which is treated as the core business currency in most of the countries. the dollar is flowing out of US & US is printing it more & more to finance its fiscal deficit & cash req.
over outflow of dollar is working against it.further US is world's largest importer which makes its currency weaker against competitor currencies.
low interest rates in US do not attract money from outside,
over all.. thumbs down..
