Here are several ideas (I was in your situation myself once):
1. Call up the local Lodge and ask to speak to/leave a message for either the Tyler or the Secretary (the latter is an elected Lodge office, not a lady who answers the phone) and explain your desire to join. They will most likely ask you to come down and fill out a preliminary application, in which you will tell them what they ask, including any Masons you know, your admiration of past Masons (you can email me thru this link and I will be happy to give you a very exhaustive list), and what you hope to achieve by/your purpose in joining. They will eventually send a Mason to your home who will interview you and ask you why you want to join - and you will now know that Mason, so you can ask them to join (I'm serious!); without going into detail of why they do it this way, they will then send two others to your home who will do the same thing. If they come to your house do NOT serve them any booze or even offer to!
2. Find out when the local Lodge meets and go to one of their dinners that occur prior to the meeting, and introduce yourself to the Master who will be up on the dais in the center, flanked by the Junior and Senior Wardens. Eventually the same chain of events will unfold as in step one above.
3. If you are a member of a non-Catholic church congregation, even if you are Jewish, chances are that someone in the congregation is a Mason, especially a Church in the South and Mid-West, or a Synagogue in a big city. Try to find a Mason or get pointed to one (or a Shriner or Scottish Rite) and explain the situation. Once you find such a Mason they may even go so far as to ask you who your parents know as chances are you may unknowingly already know someone who has not really talked about being a Mason to you or your parents. If you are Catholic, forget it - they would prefer to see you as a Knight of Columbus - but at least they wouldn't excommunicate you for joining, as they used to.
4. Ask business owners or the President of a Bank - or even in a bar or gas station - - you'd be surprised how many people are members - estimated at 6 million in the U.S. alone. Not to jump into another subject, but frequently Freemasons are members of or sympathetic to the NRA (and no, I never met any Nazi-types there - we'd kick them out for giving the Masons a bad name).
5. If you have a sister, ask if any of her friends are members of Job's Daughters or if her friend's mom is in the Order of The Eastern Star; or ask if any of your guy friends are or were in DeMolay, the unit for men under 21 (correction - 18 - thanks to another answerer). All of these are Masonic groups.
6. If you know any Shriner's or anyone in the Scottish Rite, they all had to be Masons to get in. If you are in a large city like San Francisco you could call the Scottish Rite or the Shriner's Temple and start from there.
7. Frequently in the South and Mid-west, or even in California's Central Valley, a lot of servicemen will be members - so talk to the local recruiters for the various branches of the military. In small towns in the Mid-west, particularly Indiana, Iowa and Kansas a lot of farmers are members. And although they might not like you asking, a small percentage of people in the Masons also belong to the Elks, Moose or Eagles. Just play it loose like you may want to join them too without being committal or telling any lies. Such groups have a long memory for betrayal.
8. The application to each Lodge is separate, so it would do no good for me to say I knew you. It must be within your immediate vicinity, although a Mason you meet may be a member of a Lodge in another town nearby. Everything I've said thus far assumes you are not Black. Blacks are able to be both in the "regular" Fraternity as well as in the Prince Hall system, whereas whites have to ask a special favor to get into Prince Hall - you could see why - it's a matter of respect to avoid an appearance of spying or superiority, etc. If you are Black you will need to decide which to join and then if it is Prince Hall, you will look them up in the phonebook as I do not know how similar their methods are to what I've described. If you are white and join, please do yourself a favor and try to get invited to a Prince Hall Lodge meeting - you will be so impressed I can't even describe it!
But above all, while not looking for perfect people, they do want you to be "morally upright" (basically no pedophiles, atheists or if you have ever been arrested for more than a minor traffic violation), and they will most likely ask you if you have ever been a Boy Scout, in a College Fraternity or even on the honor roll (that, believe it or not helped my as I had been invited to join the honor society and turned it down due to being too busy working and going to school, which they took as a sign of responsiblity). They are also very heavily into charitable work and if you have ANY history of such, even being part of a committee to sell raffle tickets (or a carwash) for a good cause, they'll like that too.
Fraternally Yours,
Walter E.
P.S.: to brighstar: I am a York Rite Knight Templar and I never once had to "kiss the Bible Goodbye", nor would I ever consider doing it as it is my rod and staff; you are confusing the real truth of the Fraternity with the garbage that came out of the mouth Baigent and Leigh in "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, where they go chasing the myth of the meaning of the Holy Grail, getting tangled up with the alleged Knight Templar blackmail against the Catholic Church via the Temple's supposed inside info that: EITHER Mary Magdalen bore Jesus child AND/OR that a secret society of pre-Jewish (religion) Jews (from Egypt, believers in Isis and Osiris) is the secret power of the world AND/OR that Jesus faked his own Resurrection and is buried in a grave. Time to disassociate the nebulosity of your vivid imagination and get a grip on reality as I know a 32nd degree Mason (and one of the hundred members of the Cedars of Lebanon in the entire world - the maximum who can be in at any given moment) who left in his will his entire wealth to his local Church. So if he was a Satanist I am the Pope.

Freemasonry is an oath bound fraternal order of men which derives from the medieval fraternal order of Freemasonry. We adhere to many of the Ancient Charges, laws customs and legends of operative Freemasonry. We are loyal to the civilian government under which we exist. We inculcate moral and social virtues by symbolic application of the operative stonemasons' working tools and by allegories, lectures and charges. Freemasonry obligates its members to obey the principles of brotherly love, equality, mutual aid, secrecy and confidence. We have secret modes of recognition that permit members to recognize each other as brothers. We require a through examination into the mental, moral and physical qualifications of a petitioner and we admit men into the fraternity by secret ceremonies based in part on legends of the Craft.
Once a person has decided to apply for membership he fills out a petition signed by 2 members of the Lodge he desires to join. He gives the petition to one of the men along with the required initiation fee. The petition is read at the Lodge's stated meeting when the Worshipful Master will appoint an investigating committee who will interview the petitioner in person. The investigating committee will report back to the Lodge at the following stated meeting when the members present will vote on the petitioner. One the petitioner is accepted he is given the three Degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason. There are certain requirements a candidate must meet before he can proceed from one degree to the next.
One must obtain the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason before he is allowed to wear any Masonic jewelry. One must have a Belief in a Supreme Being. The HOLY BOOKS play an important function in all Masonic Rituals, ceremonies and activities. The tenets of the Masonic Fraternity are " Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. " The Masonic Fraternity is NOT a Secret Society but rather a Society With Secrets like several other Organizations such as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose, Elks, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Knights of Pythias, Knights of St. John, Lions, etc. etc.
No matter what you have heard the Masonic Fraternity is NOT Satanic in nature. There are a lot of people who claim intimate knowledge about the Masonic Fraternity who are not members. suggest you contact a member to discuss any questions or concerns to receive proper information.
Suggest if you are interested in pursuing your interest in the Masonic Fraternity and are over the age of 18 you contact a man whom you know to be a Mason for further information and an application. If under the age of 18 you can inquire about the DeMolay Organization.
If no local Masonic Lodge is available then you can contact the Grand Lodge of Masons for the State in which you reside. The Brothers there will be happy to assist you in any way possible

Try writing a letter to your local chapter (or whatever it is) of freemasons. Maybe they can give you some guidance.

Make an informed response concerning Freemasonry:
Freemasonry is a movement which has its origins in various secret societies of the middle ages, although it was really in the 18th century that it took on much of its present form. Freemasons today wield much power and influence in world affairs. The extent of this power is difficult to know from the outside. However, it is fairly certain that many of the western world's top politicians, businessmen, judiciary, clergymen (!) and media people are members of this secretive group.
Although some freemasons deny it, freemasonry is a religion. New members may be told that it is perfectly compatible with any religion a man may choose to follow, but it becomes clear as one progresses through the various levels of freemasonry that it really is another religion. Freemasonry borrows its many of its religious concepts from ancient Babylonian religious systems, as well as from Judaism, Christianity and Hinduism. No one except the Freemasons themselves are supposed to know what actually happens in the rites of the lodge, but most of this information has already been published by people who left the movement, even some from the highest levels (31st, 32nd and 33rd degree freemasons). A lot can also be known about freemasonry by studying their own publications.
Why Do Men become Freemasons?
Many men become freemasons because they are invited to do so by colleagues who are usually further up the social scale than they are themselves. Men are led to understand that by joining the lodge they will enjoy many benefits and opportunities in society which they would not otherwise enjoy. Freemasons will almost always favor each other above someone else who is not a member of the lodge. Business opportunities, special favors, invitations to positions of influence are some of the benefits enjoyed by many devoted members of the lodge.
The Deliberate Practice of Deception
Many freemasons go no further than the Master Mason level (3rd level). However, those that press on to study for the rituals of the higher levels of the York or Scottish rites soon learn that there are mysteries which those at the lower levels are not permitted to know. In fact, they find out that those at lower levels are deliberately misled concerning the doctrine and practices of freemasonry. Those who have earned the right to know can be proud of their superiority over the rest of the ignorant masses. There is the constant lure of increased esoteric knowledge, power and influence for those who "climb the mountain" of masonic advancement. Of course this appeals to human nature. There is a strong desire in natural men for power, control, influence, recognition and secret knowledge. Freemasonry promises this to its loyal devotees. However, when we realises that deliberate deception is being practiced, we should smell a rat.
Is Freemasonry compatible with Christianity?
Many Anglican clergymen are and have been freemasons. Clergymen from other denominations are also involved. New initiates are told that Freemasonry is basically a moral movement for the betterment of humanity in which people of all religions can participate. However, it is not possible to follow the Bible and accept masonic doctrines and practices at the same time. In one of their rituals, masons kiss the Bible goodbye. The ways of Jesus Christ who taught openly and without deception are incompatible with the ways of freemasonry.
Who is the God of Freemasonry?
Lower level masons are told that masons must believe in a deity known as The Great Architect of the Universe. However, when they get to one of the mid range levels (about level 8 I believe) they are then told that the deity of freemasonry is in fact called 'Jahbulon', This name is a syncretic mixture of the Hebrew name for God, Yahweh, the Babylonian god 'Bel' ('Baal?') and the Egyptian god 'On'. The Old Testament speaks out strongly against these pagan deities (Isaiah 46 for example). The people of Israel were not even supposed to take the names of these gods upon their lips! How can this 'Jahbulon' be one and the same as the God of the Bible? Christianity declares Jesus Christ to be God in human flesh. How can Jesus be Jahbulon? The very idea is blasphemous to a Christian.
Things get worse when a freemason reaches the 31st level. At this stage, freemasons are informed that the true name of God is Lucifer. Now Lucifer is the name of the angel that fell from heaven through rebellion and became the devil, or Satan. Satan is the arch-enemy of the people of God! Freemasons claim that Lucifer is really the true god they serve. At the same time they are quick to point out that they consider Satanism to be a heresy. Yet the antipathy of freemasonry towards the true and living God of the Christians comes out clearly here, as indeed it does in other places.
Christians are instructed to "flee from idolatry". No true disciple of Jesus Christ could stay within the movement of freemasonry once he knew the facts. In fact, anyone knowing the Bible at all and wanting to respect it could not so much as go through the initiation rituals of a first level mason, since they involve horrible curses.
The Curses of Freemasonry
Freemasons wish death upon themselves should they reveal the secrets of freemasonry to an outsider. This is a good example of a curse. Now some might think this is just harmless fun, but its only a person ignorant of spiritual realities who would think such a thing.
Christians are instructed to "bless and curse not". Cursing is a common witchcraft practice. It is done today by all sorts of religious practitioners, including orthodox priests, witches, satanists, scientology leaders and freemasons, just to name a few.
It may seem ridiculous to some readers, but cursing invokes demon powers. These demon powers get the right to attack people through these spoken curses. The curses actually go from generation to generation. I myself have a great grandfather on my father's side who was a very high level freemason. The curses associated with this did affect me and my family. Indeed, one of my brothers, who also dabbled in martial arts a little, although a Christian, died at the age of 21, without warning. To me this was due at least in part to a curse.
It was necessary for me to go through much exorcism to get the demons associated with freemasonry out of me. This was one of the most difficult parts of my deliverance. Yet it was absolutely necessary for me in order to make subsequent spiritual progress in certain areas.
What to Do if you have been affected by or involved with Freemasonry Renounce it completely. Jesus said, "What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?" The social advantages of being a freemason do not compare with the advantages of being free to follow Jesus Christ in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Further, no professing Christian involved in Freemasonry can stay in the movement without deliberately living in rebellion against God, once the facts about freemasonry are clearly known.
If you have ancestors who were freemasons, or you have been involved yourself, you will need deliverance from evil spirits. These spirits have the characteristic of producing a kind of spiritual blindness in people. Its no wonder since the initiation of a first level mason involves the initiate wearing a blindfold. Even those who reach the top of the mountain of freemasonry are told that a cloud obscures the view from the top of the mountain. The connections with spiritual blindness should be obvious enough. For the sake of Christ, reconsider your position and take a stand for Christ. Put your vision and efforts into discipleship in the Kingdom of God and not in the lying system of Freemasonry.
