(02/17/2007)

PRESS RELEASE

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens announced Saturday night that goaltender Cristobal Huet will undergo surgery on Sunday, February 18 in Montreal to repair his left hamstring. He will be out indefinitely.

Huet left the Canadiens' game in New Jersey in the second period after pulling his left hamstring on Wednesday night. He fell awkwardly in his net after giving up a power-play goal and was assisted off the ice and to the locker-room with 6:49 left in the period.

Huet is 19-15-3 this season with a 2.74 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.

Hamstring surgery usually points to about 2 months of recovery. That's horrible news for the Habs, as it might dash their hopes of even making the playoffs this year.

They haven't given a timetable for his return yet. He is having surgery today (2/18) on his left hamstring. I'm guessing that they will have a better idea of how long he'll be out when they are done with the surgery.

He's out for the rest of the regular season. The only way he'll see action again is if the habs make it to the playoffs but without him it will be difficult.

He is out for the rest of the season.
Halak has been called back from Hamilton. He should be in front of the net this afternoon against the Jackets.

Well based on usual recovery time, yeah probably. He could be back sooner or out longer. Heck something could go wrong in surgery and basically end his career. That isn't likely but always a risk with surgery.
