the thingey people wrote said that genetic engineering (splicing and switching/adding genes) was not allowed to be organic and cloning is NOT genetic engineering. cloning is another form of asexual reproduction. i dont know why the USDA doesn't approve of it. what's wrong with cloning? you can snip off a twig from a house plant, put it in water for a few days, and roots will form. you plant it on the ground and it grows up to be a genetically identical plant to wich it was dervived from. that is also cloning , which is NOT genetic engineering. what's so "unsafe" about cloned food? you could chop up a starfish and throw it back in the water and each piece will grow back into a whole starfish, not like it will have a disadvantage because it's cloned. so it's like saying, what's wrong with identical twins?

cConing is considered inorganinc becasue the process to clone and animal is not a simple as cliping a part of a plant and letting that part grow. In that case the roots are developed naturally, with out the assistance of outside chemicals.

Cloning consists of extracting DNA from an already existant animal and creating a fetus that was derived soley from that one animal's one animal's cell.

An organic animal is created by two animals combining, one providing an egg, the other providing the sperm, to create a baby of that species, as nature intended.

Since there is only one donor of the cloned animal, it is condidered inorganic.

Cloned food, in my opinion is unsafe because of the way that it is created, asexually and in a lab. It is also known that the cloned animals tend to age and die fairly quickly compared to that of an organic animal. These yet to be explained early deaths, say to me: That these animals are not 100% perfect physically, for unknown reasons.

As far as the starfish growning back it's extremety, it is considered organicbecause their bodies are designed to do so. Same as in some reptiles. It woul be like saying the parts of our fingernails that grow back after clipped are inorganic becasue they grew back to replace the original ones.

CLoning plants and Animals are different. Animals are far more complex and the reason why it took so long to clone animals compared to plant was timing the expresion of genes. TH ere has been evidence that clobned animal age differently at the cellular level. We don't know what that means in the long run. If teh timing is off on the expression of genes, it also could radically change the animal. We thought there was no harm in feed cows beef if we cooked it. Unfortunately we were wrong and created a brand new disease. Besides, why do we need to eat cloned beef. There are more food in the world than we need, and as an American, beef is too cheap and plentiful. You can see that in our Bellies as well as the heart attack statistics.

Cloning is not considered organic by people who neither understand plant cloning nor the idea of organic. Plant clones are not generally created using so-callled genetic engineering, and it is, indeed, often as simple as cutting a plant in two and growing both parts....

But don't take my word for it, here's a link:

Organic plants cloned organically are organic.
Most people who disagree confuse cloned plants with transgenic plants. Here is a link describing transgenic plants:
http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/T/TransgenicPlants.html

There is a general non-scientific subset of the population that likes to play games with semantics to get people up in arms. The conflation of cloned plants with transgenic plants is another example of people without enough knowledge about science hoping to exploit the lack of knowledge of others to their own benefit.

People who actually grow plants know that cloned plants can be made organically, and, indeed, lots of organic farms use cloning, as there are several plants that can't be grown any other way.

Of course it is organic. It's about as organic as you can get. Some people disapprove of it though and have misappropriated the word "organic" to mean something that they approve of. Their attitudes have little to do with scientific or technological reality or even rationality and in many situations they are best ignored.
