I have a lip piercing, and it only bothers me when I try to take a drink of something (it gets in the way of the cup, its really kinda funny). I think that it depends on the jewelry and where on the lip it's pierced. My lip ring doesn't touch my gums, and it doesn't get in the way of my teeth. I've actually had mine pierced twice. The first time I let it close up, there's not even a scar really. It closes up fast, so don't take the jewelry out for too long (like overnight). As far as what piercing looks good on a female, mine is pierced on the side, I have big lips and it wouldn't look good in the middle. It depends on how big your bottom lip is and where you think it looks best.
Hope I've helped, good luck!! You'll love it :)

If it hurts the gums, DON'T get one!

Besides, if you're getting a job somewhere, you'll look unprofessional.
