I think that Dion Phaneuf will no doubt win a Norris in his career. As for right now, I think he is a little young. I mean he takes twice the penalties Lidstrom does, and Phaneuf is still taking runs at guys and missing occasionally. I wouldn't be surprised if he is a candidate, but I suspect it will be a battle between Niedermayer and Lidstrom, and just because of the year Detroit is having, I'd put my money on Lidstrom.

Lidstrom is a joke compared to Phaneuf???? What have you been smoking??????? Lidstrom has 4 Norris trophies already. He is having a great year. He leads the league, not defencemen, the league in +- ratings. The only defenceman I can think of that might play more minutes per game than Nick would be Pronger. Lidstrom is a great quarterback on the powerplay. He has one heck of a one timer. He is so smooth you don't realize all he does out there. Yes, Phaneuf is good for this only being his 2nd season. Defencemen usually take longer to mature but he has YEARS before he will be even close to Lidstrom's caliber.

Phaneuf is fun to watch, but he is not a high caliber, game controlling defense. I used to think Lidstrom was over-rated, but he has done it too good for too long-he is the real deal. If anyone has benefited from a high scoring team-it is Pronger-on paper his numbers look great-but everyone is just skating by him this year-just up and going around him. I would like to see someone else besides Lidstrom win it for a change, but the usual suspects all look average this year. I would like to see This award not given to the defensemen with the highest points-but the actual best defensemen. Maybe we can add a best offensive defensemen like we have defensive forward. Also, this class of defensemen are getting old-in the next couple of years their will be a changing of the guard-I think Phaneuf will be part of that movement.

Phaneuf is having a decent year, but there are defencemen who are having great years: Pronger, Lidstrom, Ryan Whitney, Souray, Dan Boyle, and a few more

Phaneuf (sorry to say but is the joke) Lidstrom leads the NHL defensemen in Assists, total points, +/-, and time on Ice. What the heck does Dion do. MMMMMMM

Lidstrom is consistently overrated due to his numbers from playing with the Red Wings, but Phaneuf is not a Norris caliber defenseman (at least not yet).

Phaneuf is a great player, but he's not Norris worthy. Until he puts up better numbers and wins a Cup he'll never get it.
