Canada.. because its the country where power really emanates from the people through their elected parliament. It is a country that brings people together - French speaking and English speaking, people from various races and creeds. Likewise, their parliament has decreed laws that eradicated discrimination.

My vote is for Switzerland or Iceland.

As to the suggestion Canada has any claim to that title, you people really need to stop deluding yourselves. We have unelected senators, an unelected executive, no recall, no initative ability, no run off elections, no ability to impeach officials and no idea when the next election is coming. Even the United States solidly kicks our *** on this count with their disgustingly low participation rates.

The only thing I think we can brag about is no one runs a fairer election than Elections Canada. The guy that is supposed to win under our system always does. Other countries know it and that's why these guys go teach them how to run their own elections which, ironicly are often a greater exercise in democracy than what they run at home.

Agree with Molly. Switzerland, by a country mile. The only real republic - all the others have some big King-type person, s/he's just elected that's all.

Philippines is the most democratic country. We always have elections. We elected not only our government leaders. It's in our culture. Even school leaders are elected. The only person we cannot elect is the head of the family! In fact, only two institutions remain undemocratic in the Philippines - church and the family.
