It actually does. But, since it's an alternating magnetic and electric field, the average deviation sums to zero and, since the deviation is zero, the Poynting vector remains constant and it travels in a straight line.

The average of a electromagnetic field (electric or magnetic part taken separately) is zero even though it carries energy. Therefore it cannot (on average) deviate.
