The pirate skull and cross bones that are featured on a pirate flag.

A fairly large cut out template because I want to make a jolly rodger flag out of kindergarten paper.

Yes, it is true. The use the bones and skulls by pirates, does not represent the origin. Bones and skulls are a symbol of re-birth by initiatory groups. Its' a good thing, it symbolises the renewal of yourself in life, but it obvious how could it be misused.

Actually the skull and crossed bones was a Templar symbol, later adopted by the Freemasons and other "secret societies" as well as pirates.
