We are making a big deal out of nothing. It should be about the person and their philosophies and that is it.

Challenges would be the media attention because either would be the "first". And in that same vein, another challenge would be to get their stance across on issues, rather than everyone just focusing on their race/gender.
We're ready. Has there been an Afro-American or woman in the past that you felt was the most qualified? Are you ready?

Wait till 2008 and you may have, at least, a partial (portion of), if NOT complete, answer. I say this, with much hope, great respect, and utmost sincerity for the well-being of the wonderful people of the USA. The good US citizens, are also expected to , as a result of there own continuously increasing good, bring about much good for the complete globe, without exception.
Please don't insult "this answer from a distant land" by calling it "Mumbo Jumbo..."
Cooperation, from global citizens, in the right constructive spirit, ALONE, can make "our dreams for global peace" come true!! Sir Bertrand Russel (world-famous philosopher, of old) had once written an essay, to the effect, that either there will be global cooperation or total annihilation.

Well heres food for thought Rasmussen Report's did a poll asking what race people thought the democrat or republican nomine would be.
73% of Democrats said that they thought the Democrat Presidential Nominee would be a WHITE MALE.
And am I the olny one who wonders why affirmative action is good enough for Corporations and Universities to use, but it is not used in the Political Process?
It could easily be used in the party primaries, because the constitution does not care how a party chooses it candiates.
Are the parties saying that minority political candiates have not been discriminated against in the past ?

We'll see if one gets voted in a president. As far as preaching democracy if we're not, our decision would be based on votes and in that would be the practice of democracy (one that's worked for over 200 years).
So to your first question, I don't know, I vote on who I agree with, not their race or gender, the second question makes no sense.

People might not be entertaining the idea of a Black or a female President because traditional politics have males and whites for a President. Thus, these sectors might not cooperate with the Black or female President so that they will find reasons to remove either of them from power.

The greatest challenge will be convincing the voters that they are worth voting for based on their ideas and policies. There are probably people out there who will not vote for a candidate because of their Gender or Skin color. Personally I would vote for Hillary or Obama because I don't agree with their ideas. Condi Rice I would vote for in a heart beat.

One is completely inexperienced and the other couldn't control her personal life, yet she believes she can control a country. Just because we haven't had an AMERICAN OF AFRICAN DESCENT or a woman as President of our fair country doesn't mean we are not the premiere country to lead the world to democracy.
Afro-American??? What are you, in 3rd grade? An African-American is a person born in Africa who is an immigrant to the US and has applied for or has received US citizen status. An American of African Descent are those great Americans who are born in our country and are of African heritage.

We're ready but the challenges still outweigh the hope. You can't choose a candidate that's too engulf by painful history because they can't see a future. You can't choose a candidate that's easily frustrated in the present because they can't outsmart the hurdles in their term, http://www.voteprimous.com
