I have a friend who is Sicilian, she told me that she was white, but she did not look white. She looked like a Puerto Rican with a cool tan.I
told her that and she squeezed the hell out of my balls. She would not let go until I cried.I was playing around when I told her that she was not Sicilian and that she looked like a Puerto Rican.I like this girl, but now she won't talk to me.But serious why are some Italians so dark,if there suppose to be white.Legend has it that most white
people are very light skin Italians are tan.Are they mixed with black,Arab,or what?I always wanted to learn about Italian people, but I always get false answers about them.Any info would be good.Sorry if I offended anyone.

Sicily is near Algeria and Lybia, which are nations with dark skin. They are not as black as africans, but the darker skin also comes from our Arabian influences got from the invasions of the south of Italy in the past centuries. That's why southern italians have darker skin and hair than northern. Although I have met a lot of blond, blue eyed sicilians, due to other invasions.
I can tell you that in the past 50 years there isn't this big difference between north and south in Italy any more.

The US racial classifications such as white, black, hispanic, etc are not exacltly scientific and leave many gaps and contradictions. For example, nowadays, an Iranian and an Arab is white and an Argentinean and a Spaniard is not white, but Hispanic.

Well, let an Arab walk into a redneck bar somewhere in Alabama and let an Argentinean do the same and see who comes out alive.

I do not take US racial classifications seriously and I advise others not to do so, either. They can drive you crazy. Better just see people by ethicities and cultures.

However, do keep in mind that when Italians arrived in the US, the official classifications did not yet include "Hispanic" or "Latino". And there were only two official races: Blacks and Whites. Italians became (dark.lol) whites.

The founding fathers were not anthropologists, you know. They just created very arbitrary systems according to their own whims.
And people are now suffering from identity crises for their entire lives based on these.

I personally do not recognize these classifications and advise others not to do it either.

Italians are Italians and Puerto Ricans are Puerto Ricans.

It's a way to separate individuals whether join in unity.

I've met Italians who don't want anything to do with Sicily, because of the tendency for some Sicilians to have "darker skin."

sicily was originally not part of italy, and although now the people that live there are italians, they come from a different racial background and therefore look different.
