I am 24 weeks pregnant... I havent had ANY complications with my pregnancy yet. But tonight I had a VERY minimal amount of spotting, when I say minimal I mean it. It was dark brown in color like old blood. I am very worried... I am pretty sure the baby is still moving, It is too late to call my Dr. and I have no way to my hospital's ER... Has any one experienced anything like this or have any suggestions. Promptness is greatly appreciated...

Generally some light spotting late in pregnancy is very normal. The spotting is usually from your cervix being irritated (ie: sex can cause it) it is your cervix preparing itself for what lie ahead. You do not need to rush to the E.R. and if you still need reassurance you can call your doctor's office number and there is usually an OB on call or an answering service that will contact your doctor so you can ask him/her. Some things to look out for are if the spotting continues for more than a day or if it starts to get heavier or more red. Also if you start experiencing braxton hicks contractions frequently, your cervix could be dilating. When I was 27 weeks, I had some actual bleeding and then brown spotting for 2 days. At my next ultrasound at 30 weeks it turned out I had already dilated to 3 cms. I had gone into preterm labor but like I said I had bleeding and my contractions were very frequent.

you could have placenta abruption, that happened to me at 18 weeks, i saw blood and when its dark brown its old blood is what they told me, but i would throw that out there when you go to the doctor, you should DEFINITLY get it checked out, cause if its bad you will need hospitilization or strict bedrest, they put me on bedrest, but i knew my own body and i still did things like going to the store but i always rested and didnt strain myself, and now i have a beautiful healthy girl, but placenta abruption is where the placenta tears away from the uterus and then takes away oxygen and other vital sources from the baby, you can research more online but i would call your OB just to be on the safe side and to get a ultrasound to find the abruption if you have one i hope everything turns out fine for you and you have no comps at all, oh and one more thing, if you can get your epidural ASAP, i waited 9 hours and it worked for only 2 hours and i was in labor for 16hours, it sounds like a long time, but it really does go by fast and when its time to push you forget the pain~ GOOD LUCK!!

See a doctor. but saying that VERY LIGHT and BROWN is a good sign. i had that around 6 weeks and my doctor did a ultra sound to make sure but everything turned out okay. he said you outta really wrory when u wind up having A LOT OF BLEEDING AND BRIGHT RED BLEEDING . thats a miscarriage. Anyhoo it could be from having sex and stuff, but go get it checked, better to be safe than sorry. but dont freak. good luck!!!

Dont worry. This is very normal for first time moms. Your body is trying to ajust. It happens, and mention it to your doctor at your next visit, but dont worry. It happens to lots of us.
