It has two meanings:

1.
a. The fact or quality of being diverse; difference.
b. A point or respect in which things differ.

2. Variety or multiformity: “Charles Darwin saw in the diversity of species the principles of evolution that operated to generate the species: variation, competition and selection” (Scientific American).

There is an old saying that in a way refers to financial or economic diversity. 'Never put all of your eggs into one basket.'

In society it would refer to people, cultures and traditions, such as we have here in the US. As your first answerer put it, variety.

diversity means variety. for e.g. biological diversity of the reinforests. for e.g great diversity of opinion.please vote me
