Normally, Pepé's romantic interests should include female skunks ("petite femme skunk"), but each episode invariably revolves around Pepé pursuing a "skunk", who, unbeknownst to him, is usually a hapless black cat (retroactively named Penelope Pussycat) that inadvertently gets a white stripe painted down her back.

Her name is Penelope, and I must clarify something for everybody. From your question, and the various responses to it, it is clear to me that there is a basic misunderstanding.
It is on the same order as Mr. Magoo. Some people who are not blind have mistakenly taken up a crusade against the artists of Mr. Magoo because they think the cartoon makes fun of blind people. But they are completely missing the point!
Nobody could actually have the hair-raising adventures that Mr. Magoo has if they were actually as near sighted as he is. They would quickly be killed or seriously injured. The whole point is to warn people not to let their pride get in the way of admitting that they can’t see as well as they used to. Magoo knows he is practically blind. The fault lies in both him and the people who enable him, by not insisting that he get glasses. But don’t try to put on a high-hat and pretend that it is an attempt to ridicule the blind, because that is simply not the case.
Does everybody understand that Pepe Le Pew has mistaken Penelope-- who is a cat-- for another skunk? Does everybody understand that the humor of the cartoon comes from this misunderstanding? Does everybody understand that Pepe considers himself a great lover while he is actually trite, hackneyed and so stereotyped as to be ridiculous? Do you see that this is where the humor of the cartoon comes from?
Pepe Le Pew is not raping Penelope. The word has a specific meaning, which does not correspond to the animation. He is not using force or threats of force, he is not drugging her, he is not applying pressure in those ways.
The cartoon is not glorifying rape. There is supposed to be plenty of hentai that does glorify rape, yet I have not heard too many people complaining about it.
What Pepe Le Pew does is certainly sexual harassment, but not sexual assault.

Don't know the cat's name but the skunk is Pepe la Pewhhh...don't know how to spell that exactly. Don't think the kitty had a name other than Pepe calling her "Mmmmhhh...Mon Cherie...Babeee"
