1) Because I never had feelings of sexual attraction for women. Ever. When I went through puberty, my attraction was always towards guys.
2) Because I tried for a very, very long time to change, using every method of counseling, therapy, and religious effort that I could find, and even dating some pretty cute girls to see if that would help. Nothing worked, and it wasn't until I finally accepted the way I was made that my life began to feel complete and at peace.

I have always been a masculine person, never dressed up as a girl, was never abused, etc., and was just as much into sports and being the typical boyish kid growing up as anyone else. Masculinity had nothing to do with sexual orientation in my case.

I don't need any 'proof.'
I know who I am.
I tried to have girlfriends in high school, since it was the thing every guy did. I never had sex with any of them, and didn't ever want to. I wanted to have sex with guys. I had always been attracted to guys, ever since I could remember being aware of the difference between boys and girls.

Why do fundamentalists keep asking this question? Sorry that being gay doesn't fit into your narrow little world. But the fact is: some people are gay, and no amount of praying or 'healing' or societal pressure or trying to choose differently will change that.

Let me ask you this: how easy would it be for YOU to choose to be gay? Why, then, do you think it would be easy for any gay person to choose to be straight? Do you think that gay people are only 'confused heterosexuals'? Let me assure you: for generations people have tried to pray their way out of being gay, have tried all manner of therapies to 'treat' their gayness. It simply doesn't work. Sexual orientation is something that is set quite early on in life. It's not a switch that you choose to turn on and off. Sexual identity isn't a sweater that you can choose to wear or choose to leave at home.

Either one is gay or one is not.

I am gay. I have known this all my life.

Why do you say you were born a heterosexual? Is it because you just "went with the flow" or do you have any way to prove it? Did your father force you to play football when you really wanted to draw or paint? Did your mother force you to wear your dress when you really wanted to bum around in jeans and high-top sneakers? Stupid answer to a stupid question.

The REAL question for you is WHY ARE YOU HOMOPHOBIC? Are your secretly suprressing feelings for someone of the same sex? Did you grow up in a family who wasn't very well read, didn't "get out much" or taught you that hate and intolerance were normal? I'm very sad for you right now.

If you are making the argument that homo/hetero sexuality is a choice, then we can only assume that you, yourself had to make the same choice.

You must have been attracted to both boys and girls at one point in your life. You then "chose" to enjoy the company of the opposite sex.

If I'm wrong, please say so. But keep in mind if what I've just spelled out is incorrect or preposterous, then it would appear you are making assumptions about something you couldn't possible know about and are just repeating what has been told to you by others.

Think about it.

You've put way too much thought into this useless question. Why does homosexuality bother you and others to such an extent? Like it or not, the differences in humans are here, and maybe your time could be put to more productive use. Exercising your brain muscles will only be beneficial to you.

I don't say that I was born bisexual, nor do I say that anyone was born gay or straight.

But science seems to be indicating that there is a gentic component to sexual orientation.

All I know is that I've always felt like this (had a perfectly normal childhood, too, no 'signs' or abuse, etc., etc.) and I know that sexuality cannot be consciously changed.

I was never abused, and I was never dressed like a little girl as a child.

I believe that one is born with a certain number of balanced chromosones. The homosexual human being is born with a different make up than the heterosexual human. Truly, one does not choose to be gay. With such ostracism, alienation, and ridicule, I hardly believe that it is a personal choice to pick one's sexual ,preference

Nobody ever did any of those things to me. I grew up a perfectly normal child. And I am now a perfectly normal gay adult. You can't for 1 minute believe that every gay person you have ever talked to lied about this. Why on earth would anyone lie about it?

My dad raised me to be a man. I hunt, fish, play every sport, and always date the prettiest girls. Despite all that, i'm starting to realize it's not the pretty girls i'm into. it can't be helped and it's just the way i was born and i know that cuz i would never choose to make my dad hate me.
