If I said I believed you, I'd be lying.

There are many views on what qualifies as "honesty is the best policy." There is such a thing as being honest or truthful to a flaw. There are those to devise "weapons" of sorts and disguise them as "honesty." There is also a place for diplomacy which is not separate from honesty but there is a reasonable amount of filtering. Everything that is true doesn't have to be acknowledged or mentioned.

I think most of us would like to believe that we do, but IMO everyone has a point that they will not cross when it comes to being honest with someone. If that honesty means getting themselves into trouble for something that no one knows about, most people will *not* be honest, they'll be quiet.

If your question is really "does anyone practice honesty as the best policy about their sexuality", then I'd say yes, a lot of people do. Personally, while I don't just bring it up as a main topic of conversation, I don't hide it, and if I'm asked I don't hesitate to state I'm a lesbian. If the subject is something that causes me to have to mention my domestic partner, I don't hesitate to say 'she', or hem and haw about it. In this day and age hiding it does us more harm than good, because it gives people the impression that it's something to be ashamed of. I'm not ashamed in the least of who I love, and I have no problem with letting the world know it. I don't rub their noses in it, but I won't hide it.

For the past 5 days now I've been honest to one person, and hope to tell other close friends soon too! Things are going great and I really do suggest honesty over leading a life unhappy.

I really got a lot of courage from Yahoo! Answers users and I really am thankful... That's why I try to help out by giving my opinion and experience to my others...

Do just the best you can do, and I personally think the best anyone can do is the honest thing... While it is hard, it's like getting 95% of your weight taken off of you... You don't have to worry about it slipping out, and you have someone to confide in... Friends are true blessings...

Best of luck!!! I really hope this helps you be honest too...

I fine that most people who give daily advice in the news papers, and Christian to be more of a hypocrite, not all of course. I think that when a person surrenders his' or her's advice to help others. The person must take a good look at themselves as well. It shows that we all do know in our heart that honesty can help.

The best policy is to know when its best to be honest. You don't want to hurt someone feeling because of honesty, but approach any matter with clear sensitivity depending upon what it is.

God Bless..

You probably just lied by stating other than me, LOL

Honesty is the best policy.

Then you have the other policies like white lies, and lying to save people's feelings, and just simply changing the subject or circling around a real answer.

Those aren't so bad.

Just lying to lie sucks.

The one & only person I never lie to is my daughter. She's a teenager & if I expect her to tell me the absolute truth I should respect her enough to do the same

I sure do try to, it beats telling another lie to get out of the first lie and sooner or later you've forgotten what you said and there ya go again.

Unless you killed (or something bad) to someone.. there's no need to lie.

I do , when I'm sure the truth won't hurt anyone.

Otherwise, I remain silent.
