Rain from the atmosphere falls and soaks into the ground. The roots of the tree have "root hairs" which absorb the moisture from the ground. Special tissues in the plant - xylem - acts as little tubes to transport the water from the roots to the plant cells for needed processes. The stomata on the bottom of the leaves allow moisture to escape as well as an exchange of gases with the air.
