Pets teach you responsibility, but a pets needs are mainly physical. When you have a child you also have to deal with that, as well as their mental, emotional and spiritual health. Much different and way more demanding.

I've had pets all my life and I'm not very good with children because I haven't been around small kids very much at all in my lifetime. It does give you some responsibility that you need to be looking after someone and making sure they have food. However, a baby or child would take a lot more time and responsibility than what a pet ever does. Keep up the good work though. I'm very much an animal lover and I do want children someday. However, in the end I bet I'll be one of those crazy old lady with a bunch of cats.

I'm sure it helps, but it in no way will totally prepare you for being a parent of a child. I love animals, but hate kids. I know I don't want the responsibility of children so I'll stick to being a mommy of my pets. If you think you can handle your pets times 5000 then you'd probably do ok as a parent.

Yes, I think you can! Good luck! However, I dont have kids yet, just a girlfriend and I know when I have kids, that they will definately be harder to take care of a dog, cat or bird, etc. But it will start you off, and the hardest bit of childhood I think will be from 1 - 4 years old.

That is definitely a start. You are finding out what it is like to have another living thing to depend on you for everything. There is a lot of responsibility to be a pet owner like there is to having children.

It is my opinion that anyone who loves animals is a warm, compassionate, and loving individual........which should be wonderful factors in providing for children. Only time will tell if you'll in fact be a great parent.

it could, i suppose. definitely a possibility. but then again, i know plenty of bad parents with lots of pets. having one doesn't always make you a better parent.
