In my case the child support office knew automatically that the child turned 18 and the payments stopped. I live in CA. However, the father still owes a large sum in arrearages (back support) so I am still getting payments from that.

counting down the days huh? LOL.
every state is different (slightly) about the age, and in most states, the child support continues until the child is done college or 18 and out of high school. so it all depends upon what the child needs.
check your state and find out. call your caseworker and ask or contact your attorney.

If she's not doing or anything like that then it would be pretty unethical in my opinion to stop supporting her and leave her on her own. C'mon, what type of loving parent/stepparent would do such a thing?

well i hope he is paid up, no arrears, as i am a single dad, i am supposed to receive until 19, or when the kids finish school.
but dont worry, the states are very good at either taking or stopping the support. just read the support order.

if she continues her education the child support continues , the court house know when the child turns 18 , the custodial parent can notify them the child is going to college , if that happens , dear old dad has 4 more years to go.......just call them ....

you aren't required to pay after 18. my dad payed through college just because he wanted to. not saying you need to...
call the office whenever you can. the stipulations for payment would be in the court files, so they should already know.

It more sounds like "you" need to know. This question is for your husband to ask and to worry.
