I'll tell you why. It's the negative, arrogant, rude attitudes of the people, especially the women. Large cities and small towns alike don't want their "ways of life" intruded, and therefore are very cold and impolite to "outsiders," especially eastern KY (Corbin to Winchester and eastward.) I lived there for five years; I felt ostricized for just not being a native.

The rest of the South is great--well, except Atlanta and Florida. The Carolinas are special; Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia have true Southern hospitality. And, of course, the best hospitality can be found in Texas and Oklahoma. But Kentucky? "It's that friendly?" What a crock! Even some of the surrounding states--rural parts of Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri--at least don't have people so cold. Yes, Kentucky is beautiful and diverse in geography, but it's a great place to VISIT and to BE FROM! That's it!

M.S. Mom: I lived statewide--Louisville, Central City, and London. I also worked extensively--Lawrenceburg, Murray, Somerset, Hazard, etc. I think I got a pretty good feel for the people and politics of the state.

I've been to KY twice and haven't found anything like you describe.
Maybe living there is different.
We visited Abe's birth cabin, the horse park at Lexington and tried to gain entry into Fort Knox (actually they WERE rude!!).

'm sorry your experience with the Blue Grass State was so negative.

..gee, it must be the conservatives.. or, surely some other group of people, other than my group, is at fault - just poking fun at some of the prevalent thinking of today.. doesn't Kentucky have some of those misty blue hills? Almost seems impossible anything 'bad' could be near that. Maybe men (male and female) shoulda been made to be robots.. or an ant farm.. [Summint different's goin on here.. this world is made up of everyone's choices - why?]

Lone Star, I live in Southeastern Kentucky, next to Corbin in fact. And while I agree that some people here are just plain old hateful bast*rds, and goodness knows that I, myself, have met a few people that I would charge for air if I had them in a jug, the nice people still outweigh the a**holes by far. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay here, and I truly apologise for the way people treated you, but please don't judge ALL of us so harshly because of the actions of SOME. Remember, one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch.

EXCUSE ME??? I live in Michigan but I am from Kentucky. I also am a woman. I don't know what part of Kentucky you have been to, but I lived there from birth to age 20 and it isn't like you described at all. Did you ever stop to think that maybe you weren't treated "friendly" because of your actions? Remember actions speak louder than words.

Wow. I didn't know it was so bad. I have never been there. Been to TN and am from TX but never been to Kentucky. Maybe that is why the initials are KY. LOL.

Plus, you never hear of any great innovations coming out of Kentucky, no great thinkers or even good chicken.
