I am currently seeing a girl who hasn't had a period for 3 years. She is 27 years old and is in great shape and seems very healthy, though doesn't do much excercise. On advice of her doctor she took the contraceptive pill for a while, and her period returned, but then she stopped taking it, and it stopped again. I don't know much about this kind of thing, but it seems really odd to me. And now I'm really concerned as we had a condom break and I want her to take the morning after pill, but I don't know if this will make matters more complicated. If she has no menstrual cycle, does this mean she can't get pregnant anyway? Unfortunately we are in a coutry and place where seeing a Dr (in time) is not an option.

Yes, it is possible that she is fertile even though she does not have a period. Each person is different and a very few lucky people don't have all that bleeding to deal with. Some have periods that only last for hours and some have them for up to 2 weeks out of the month. With her not having any bleeding, it is harder to judge where her cycle is at. I have read that taking your temp everyday can help to determine when ovulation occurs, so that you can predict when you are most likely to conceive. There are also some women who have their normal period every month during a full pregnancy, so even that is not an accurate indicator for some women.

If the girl hasn't had her period for three years, then there is something wrong with her. The reason that a woman gets her period is so she is able to get pregnant. It is her body cleaning itself out so that later she will be able to get pregnant. I am not a doctor, but I havent gotten my period for a year, and while I have been on medication for it, I have been told that I am infertile for the time being until everything can be regulated. This is confirmed by me not getting pregnant for the last year with regular intercourse. Hopefully she will be able to get to a doc soon. I am not sure what country you live in, but there are a lot of free clinics in the us that can help with these kinds of problems. Good luck!

Amenorrhea (the condition of not having a period) MAY cause infertility. It depends upon the underlying cause for not having normal cycles. Failure to menstruate may not mean she does not ovulate. But without a suitably lined uterus, a fertilized egg probably wouldn't implant.

Unfortunately, there aren't any absolute answers. My hunch is she would have difficulty getting pregnant. But here's some more information regarding her condition (she really should get tested and treated for the underlying cause)

Having no period doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Birth Control can really screw up your cycle! I suggest taking the morning after pill, only because if you are pregnant, it will make you get your period if you take both pills 72 hours (3 days) after the incident. good luck

yikes that doesn't sound good at all...i'm 28 and took the pill from 18-26 and for the past 2 yrs haven't had any issues will not getting my period. In fact, I get worst PMS now than i did before i went on it. i would seriously suggest taking her to an OGYN to get check for fertility.

she could actually be ovulating without her period..the period is the body's way of shedding the uterine lining and her body may not be doing that...I do know a lady who has never had periods, and she has two children with her husband. her particular condition is partially due to her extremely small size (dwarfism), though.
