Some feel they stole their land.....

I'm sure that some do and some don't. Some may hate the white race, or whites in general, but like some individual white people. They had their land stolen, were forced onto reservations, killed, forced to learn English, forced to lose their culture (though it only somewhat worked). I can't say I would blame them.

As far as all these transgressions being in the past, some have not been that long ago. Did you know that Native Americans weren't made US citizens until 1924? Some unfair practices are still taking place. For example, reservations are under federal court jurisdiction and that changes a lot of the punishments for the same crimes. Also, for another example, our drug laws stipulate that selling drugs within a certain distance of public housing doubles the "time." All housing on reservations is considered public housing. I'm not saying I'm for drugs, but it really isn't right that a Native American should get twice the punishment for selling drugs out of his house as I would.

I can't speak for all Native Americans however I am a Native woman myself.

I would like to support your statement about the past affecting us today. In fact there is something called intergenerational trauma. This means the trauma of our ancestors is passed down through the generations and still affects us today. It is very similiar to PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder), a mental health diagnosis given to war veterans. There are microagresssions and macroagressions that affect the intergenerational trauma. A microagression might be someone saying something ignorant about Native people like how they migrated across the land bridge. A macroagression would be an actual assault like being beat up by the police because you are brown. BOTH of these have current affects on Native people today. The trauma from our ancestors is still present so when one of these things occur we still very much feel pain. That is why when you hear something racist or even just a little bit annoying you can walk around for the rest of the day feeling angry and bitter. This is all true and tested by the way, people can't argue against it because it has held up in the scientific fields (as well as in common sense). And it will be very hard for us to really heal until the government quits ignoring the plight of Native people and until common citizens become educated about the real founding fathers (and mothers) of this nation. Because until then we will still on an every day basis experience micro and macro aggressions that trigger the trauma of both our past and present.

Should the Jews hate the Germans? Should the Christians hate the Romans? None of that stuff happened in our generation, either. WE didn't do it. WE shouldn't be hated. That kind of nonsense has been going on since the beginning of man's history. Yes, our past does influence our future......in the lessons we learn from the mistakes of previous generations. From those lessons we grow, and hopefully learn how not to repeat those mistakes.
Hate? It's time everybody ceased to do that. We've got to get past that, and start cooperating with each other and sharing ideas if we are ever going to solve all the world's social problems.

I live near some land that was recently being fought over. In the 1800's it was "leased" to the government, and the government sold it to some people to build real estate on in the last couple years. Natives occupied the land and it's half built houses and so far seem to have won.

I saw something on tv also where a trible out west was buying land.. being the first tribe to add land to what they own. The tribe runs several businesses, employing natives in their tribe, a couple of others and a lot of non-natives. Don't know the name though.

if the past influences the future, then why arent black people slaves anymore? why arent the germans killing the jews anymore? why are the asians and russians so willing to come take the united states? nothing that happened in the past, directly influences anything that will happen in the future, so i am going to say, the native americans hated the white people, in the past... and now they are content. thats my opinion, you should go ask an indian this question

My background is Native American and I personally don't hate white people. Yes, white settlers did some down right sh**ty things to the Native Americans like taking away their land and justifying it in the courts in ways that don't even make sense to the Justices that wrote the opinions(Justice Marshall of the Supreme Court), buying their land with inexpensive valueless trinkets(New York!), introducing the ole "fire water" that has turned certain tribes of Native Americans into generations of alcoholics, desecrated sacred burial grounds, were forced West without reason(Trail of Tears) and bringing over foreign diseases that nearly wiped out their population(thank you Christopher Colombus). However, certain warlike tribes of Native Americans did some pretty sh**ty things to white people like kidnapping their women(read books of Mary Ingles), waging war and scalping those that they killed. I don't think it's in the past. Native Americans are still dealing with the consequences of the white man's actions---they have nearly no land in comparison to what they "possessed"(many tribes don't believe that land can be owned, that it belongs to Mother Earth), alcoholism is a major problem in certain tribes and burial grounds that were once sacred are gone forever. I took a Native American Lit class in college, and I met a lot of Native Americans. A lot of them are mad at the white man, and you know, maybe they have every reason to be but there are many others who want to end the circle of hate...I think they have the right idea--forgive but don't forget the past because it is part of the future.

Its not a numbers game, and no I don't think they hate white people, they make their money off of "white people" on the reservation selling gasoline and ciggarettes,I wish the government would leave them alone.
They deserve at least that much from us,after all we stole their land.
Another answerer said they should have forgotten it by now. That is not true.
It really wasn't that very long ago, about 120 years ago,it was 145 years ago that slavery was still here in U.S. ,so i guess this guy that said that thinks that blacks should forget about slavery also.

i do not think this question can be answered with a simple yes or a no. i think hate would be too strong a word as well as including all native americans in this question. you should consider how we treated african americans when they moved in on what we had made our territory as united states. we abhorred black people. why? cause they were different. now that we have given them a chance in life and found they arent so bad i do not think that native americans hate white people for the same reason we no longer hate black people. the earlier people now know that we are not so bad either... once you get to know us we are all human beings anyway.

Like anyone... some yes, some no. Some love their friends or family that happen to be white, but understandably harbor a bit of bitterness. I think bitterness is probably more common then hate... At least by what I've heard from some people...

I'm not native but if i was i would hate white ppl.
I'm black! and not too long ago I saw a document how white slave master let dogs eat the breast off a slave, black woman because she tried to run away from everyday abuse. She had just had a baby and had to work the field and in the evening she came to nurse her baby but instead she ran away and had her breast ripped off by dogs!

Native American didn't get abused and in-slaved they were just brutally murdered by white ppl. Even today in history books it shows how they were framed in the Boston tea party by white people to only be slained by more white people. So what do you think? How do you think they feel about white people? Knowing that America would be their happy home, but only own Arizona! Any where else they pay taxes to walk on the same land that use to belong to them! ooh! before their Fathers where killed!
