If the question calls for it then long answers are fine. Just try to make them concise without too many unnecessary details. Answer in your own words. It's annoying when somebody cuts and pastes a whole Wikipedia or something article.

I've found the shorter my answers are, the better my chances are that they will be picked for "best answer". There have been questions that I could write volumes on, but if I keep them short, to the point and cover the main issue, I think they are more likely to be read

That is ok because when I really like the question and want to give that person go advice, then my answers sometimes be long, but it is worth it because the other person gets a good answer.

***AN ANSWER TO ANY QUESTION IS ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT. ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE HOW SHORT OR LONG AN ANSWER SHOULD BE.***
***SOME QUESTIONS WARRANT LONG, DRAWN OUT ANSWERS, BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN SOMETHINGS IN ONE OR TWO SENTENCES.***
***MAKE YOU ANSWERS CLEAR AND CONCISE IF YOU CAN, BUT IT'S NOT ALWAYS A PREQUESETTE FOR EVERY QUESTION.***
