I've been friends with this guy that only speaks Spanish for a year. I speak Spanish and English so we can communicate. We always have a good time together and I am really conflicted because I love him so much, but I am reserved because I don't want my heart to break. Recently (past two months) he's been pursuing a relationship. We had a big misunderstanding that was neither of our faults and everything worked out. He came to me knowing I was upset and has written me two heartfelt letters. He told me that he fell in love with me and that he doesn't want sex (he knows I am waiting) but loves me for my heart. I told him I don't want my heart to break and he promised he would never want to break my heart. He told me that he thinks about me all the time and he loves me and just wants me to feel the same and he always wants to kiss or hug. I know Latin's are generally more affectionate and he has told me "te quiero" and "te amo" and I know 'te amo' is very serious.

I would think if he just wanted sex he would have already gone elsewhere, I told him the other night that I do not want to sleep with anyone until I am married and he has told me OVER and OVER he "loves" me for my heart and not my body and after all this, he is still in pursuit. My family and friends don't approve AT ALL, because he doesn't speak English (he is currently learning), they think that the relationship would be pointless and end bad. I care about him more than ANYTHING..but they don't understand at all...what should I do??

Thanks for any help! I just need unbiased opinions.

I'm 20, he's 25.

I won't lower my standards or morals so I don't understand why they don't want this.

A lot of it could be that I am in University and he just moved here a few years ago and works a blue collar job, but I don't care about that, I care about him, not what he does for a living.

Please ask your family what they sense about this young man. Language alone can't be it. I know how easy it is to be swept off your feet by what he says but try to step back and really examine everything.

Does he have a green card? For all you know he is having sex with a little latina behind your back while laughing about the stupid gringa with the golden vagina who will get him his citizenship. Sorry for the crudeness.

Don't let your desire to be 20 and capable of making your own decisions, close you off to your family's instincts for you. Listen, then if you decide they are wrong, then I wish you both good luck. Remember, his in-laws won't like him.
