Well, for our first, my hubby and I took a day and went on a shopping spree to pick up all our big ticket items we knew we'd need. That included ordering all of our baby furniture (crib, changing table and dresser), and purchasing the car seat, stroller, swing, baby monitor, etc.
As for little stuff... clothing and bedding... I simply purchased that here or there when I was out shopping. And every time I went grocery shopping, I would pick up a package of diapers or a tub of wipes. Before I knew it, we had most of our baby gear. A tip: don't stockpile too many "newborn" diapers. The baby will outgrow those quickly. Get a varierty of sizes from newborn up to maybe size 2, to start.
Baby showers are another great way to get the things you'll need. If you're having one thrown for you, be sure you and your wife/partner make a baby registry so people will have an idea of what you want.
Good luck and congrats!

Well from a new Dad to you. Diapers are always a good thing to start getting ahead. You will go through 7-10 a day. And buying a car seat and crib and bassinet are all good things to buy early. Now clothes are best to wait till you find out what you may be having. Unless you buy neutral colors. And remember the ultrasound techs can only guess not a 100% positive

LOL 9 months is quite a long time really. If you start by buying something every payday, you will be surprised how it doesn't make a huge dent in the bank balance. Layby the big purchases like bassinet, cot, pram and carseat and pay over 3 or four months and when the time comes that you are down to one wage, you will already have everything ready.
Good luck,how exciting,congrats.

not until the second trimester, by the time you get to the second trimester the risk of miscarriage goes down signifigantly and thats when I would start buying thing and diapers and wipes are definatly something to stock up on, just make sure you get up to atleast size 2 not all newborn, my first grew out of newborn in just 8 days and my second went strait to size 1 when she was born.

pampers swaddlers are smaller then the huggies newborn, so it helped me alot because of the cord stump still being there, and get some diaper rash cream, and decent bottles, a wipe warmer would be a good invesment too, my daughter absolutly hates cold wipes, and lots of receiving blankets to swaddle them in, those already swaddlers you see in the store, dont work too great, and dont know if you are a big fan of the pacifier but the soothie pacifiers that are green that you get at hospitals you can get at babies r us, those are lifesavers for when they are trying to go to sleep, i dont use it all the time, but just occassionaly
