Okay, I'd like either a polite way to tell him to stop, or some kind of ingenious prank to pull when he's calling at a really bad time that will get the point across.

Wow, duh. Thanks for the answers, I hadn't even thought about that. "Hey Dumbass, you're running up my f*#(%ing bill." I like the sound of that... :)

You actually have a few options.

1. Tell him the truth. It never hurts to just be open and honest and if he really is your friend he'll understand. Something like "Can you please stop calling and texting me so much?" is straight forward and to the point.

2. There's also the "You're starting to freak me out by calling so often" (not that polite but calling and texting someone all the time isn't too nice either).

3. If you want you could ask him why he feels the need to call and text you so often and explain to him that it can be considered harassment. If someone else found out that knows you they might turn him in for it depending on the kind of person they are.

4. It's not nice but you could tell him to "bug off" and "stop bothering you so much" or that you "have a life" and it's "starting to get annoying".

5. Ask one of your close friends for advice about it.

6. Do the same to him and see how much he likes it. He might just bug off. (If you do this be sure to call when it's not on your peak minutes or from a landline).

7. Find out when he's going to do something that he shouldn't be bothered during and call him a lot of times during that. If he asks why you could say that your giving him a dose of his own medicine.

I would plain out tell him that his excessive amount talking to you or texting you prevents you from doing your day to day actions and by limiting the calls/text you could be able to accomplish more things. Then eventually screen his calls when they are less often, and he will just think your busy and eventually only call or text in descent amounts.

My best friend used to do that. I left without her once and I saw her in my rear view mirror. My daughter and I laughed all the way to the mall. Needles to say, she tried to improve her lateness. I also would tell her we were leaving 15 to 20 minutes earlier that we planned. She started to be on time.
